Have you ever watched the passion of Christ? I have watched it numerous times while growing up, I just watched it recently on the video of ‘it wasn’t easy’ by Cece Winans, and I could not stop the tears. I felt the groans and pains He had to go through for my sake and yours. You know what was going through my mind; not love (He sure did love humankind for Him to agree to be put through such shameful treatment) but how I could continue hurting the one who went through such ignoble and inhumane suffering for my sake.

How could I continually send Him to Calvary to pay the price for my sins repeatedly? I cannot begin to comprehend the pains He must have gone through or the many times He fell, yet picked Himself up for my sake. How could I be so heartless as to take lightly what was done for my sake? Christ would have gladly given Himself up even if I were the only sinner and yet I tell myself this sin is too hard for me to stop. Sin is an act of disobedience by a creature who rejects, at least implicitly, the very one from whom he came and who sustains him in life. How could I continually reject the One who holds the power of death and life in His hands, the One who gave up His throne and majesty to bear the curse of the tree for my sake?
He took away all my guilt and shame away and tore the veil between Heaven and earth; restored the relationship between father and child. Yet it is still not enough to prompt me to try and change my life (because God sees our efforts and His grace comes in and becomes sufficient for us to resist the devil and his works). How many more times does He have to go to Calvary for your sake and mine before we turn back to him?
Does His passion on the Cross become a waste. Does his blood flow in vain, His pains a sham. To the cross, my sins nailed Him, not the nails. Love compelled Him to suffer, love so pure, love like never seen before. He gave Himself willingly and would do it again if God asked it of Him- that is the extent of His love.
May we never take His passion lightly.

Say no to insurgency and Yes to a peaceful Nigeria. God bless you all.
